About

“Puddleglum sniffed at the liquor and took a sip. “Tastes all right,” he said. “But it might do that at the first sip. How does it go on?”

The Silver Chair, C. S. Lewis

I’ve been reading, voraciously and avidly and hungrily, for as long as I can remember. Even though my first encounter with C. S. Lewis had me burning his book – I was five, and convinced that the White Witch would come to life if from it if I didn’t take immediate heroic action – I came to love his writing and he has been the most constant companion of my literary and spiritual life. Puddleglum the Marsh-Wiggle is my favourite character of my favourite Chronicle. I read books like Puddleglum approaches strange drinks: I hope they’re good, but the first sip doesn’t always tell. Here at Puddleglum’s Progress I write about the depths of classic literature as I’ve tasted it: the religious, moral, human themes of the best well-known and obscure books I have found. If your bookshelf is heavy on the Inklings, Chesterton, Austen, and Bronte, I hope you’ll find something to think or laugh about in my Inklings-inspired essays and creative writing, and especially something that makes you a sharper, more discerning Christian reader.

I’m Kathleen. I live in Eastern Canada, studying coding and theology. In 2016 I was converted to the Roman Catholic Church and, like Tolkien, find the source of all romance, glory, honour, and fidelity in the Blessed Sacrament.
